Intercultural Network, LLC will provide a comprehensive training plan for your setting. Educational institutions have similar but different needs than corporations, which is why we typically begin with an assessment, the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®).
This assessment will help us identify faculty and administrators’ strengths in intercultural communication and engagement as well as growth opportunities. Faculty and administrative staff are used to engaging a variety of students but may find conversations about race and marginalized identities challenging, especially in the classroom. After all, they don’t typically teach cross-cultural engagement skills in graduate school. Your plan may include workshops similar to those below, implemented over time to allow for maximum learning.
The IDI® is a statistically sound, cross-culturally valid assessment that measures an individual or group’s specific level of cultural competence. As part of the assessment process, individuals are asked to complete a 50-item, online assessment. Although the assessment is completed individually, the results can be disseminated both as a group or individual report.
We must first be self-aware before we can work with others and help them embrace their differences. Learn how to honor the differences that exist among your faculty and administrative staff. (3 hours)
Gaining self-awareness is only the first step. Learn why so many students feel their curriculum doesn’t speak to them and how faculty can make a difference. (3 hours)
Learn how to invite others to discuss difficult topics such as race, class, sexual orientation, gender, and gender expression, and how these differences play out in institutes of higher education. This training provides tools with individuals, small and large groups in the workplace and the broader community. (4-6 hours) All of the trainings mentioned above can be specifically tailored to address the specific needs of students, faculty, staff, administrators or board members.
